Save the Children is a non-governmental organization (NGO) working to ensure that millions of boys and girls have the opportunity to be what they want to be today and dream about what they will be tomorrow.

Their goal is to help children survive and be protected when disaster strikes, when the bullets of conflict threaten them, or when they are exposed to the effects of any humanitarian crisis. They work to ensure that not a single day of education is lost and that children and their families recover their lives and dignity as soon as possible.

The solution.

Devoteam has successfully implemented a customized Data Warehouse and Data Lake for Save the Children. This solution will enable the organization to enhance its understanding of interactions with partners and activists, aiming to improve the effectiveness of its fundraising campaigns and financing for humanitarian projects.

The consolidation and analysis of data from multiple sources, coupled with a comprehensive view of donors and the ability to make data-driven decisions, will strengthen Save the Children’s capacity to strategically and efficiently achieve its goals. This project supports the organization’s humanitarian mission by optimizing resource usage and fostering transparency with its donors.

Technological Approach
A Data Warehouse on SQL Server and a Data Lake on S3 based on AWS, utilizing ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) processes primarily with Lambda functions, enable the integration of data from various sources, including SQL Server, Salesforce, and Marketing Cloud.

Always considering minimal cost and maximum efficiency during development, Lambda functions are used for handling the required information, task schedulers like EventBridge, services like SNS/SQS for detecting new information, and EC2 instances for installing PowerBI gateways. PowerBI reporting offers a robust and scalable platform for data management and analysis.

A Landing Zone has been built to serve as a foundation for both the current and future projects, prioritizing security and segmenting accounts based on the organization’s needs and existing best practices. This includes incorporating VPN connections, IAM policies, etc.

In summary, this AWS-based ETL solution provides an agile and scalable infrastructure for data management, integrating multiple sources, generating advanced reports, and analyzing data. This allows for maximizing information utilization and informed decision-making.
