About Carrefour
Carrefour Group is a French multinational Retail and wholesale corporation headquartered in Massy, France. The eighth-largest retailer in the world by revenue, it operates a chain of hypermarkets, grocery stores and convenience stores. The Group has used Google Workspace as a collaboration and communication platform for many years.
The Challenges
Carrefour’s Belgian division sought to enhance security and streamline operations by adopting a Zero Trust approach utilising Google tools. This move eliminated the need for traditional VPN infrastructure.
However, Carrefour operates globally on a single platform, so implementing the Zero Trust framework solely in Belgium posed a challenge – ensuring smooth integration without impacting other entities.
Devoteam G Cloud impressed us with its technical depth and dedicated team, which closely partnered with us to ensure the project’s success. Their initiative and focus on results delivered real value to our project expectations.

The Solution
Devoteam G Cloud partnered with Carrefour Belgium to implement a Zero Trust framework, leveraging BeyondCorp Enterprise, Google Workspace, and Google Cloud. This project aimed to enhance security without the need for traditional VPNs.
Collaborative Design:
- Workshops tackled key elements like integrating diverse identities and securing devices.
- Close collaboration with Carrefour’s Digital Natives team ensured smooth cloud networking integration.
- Managing multiple Identity Providers (IdPs) and password synchronisation across global operations was a consideration. Switching the primary IDP required careful planning to avoid disruptions.
Phased Rollout for Success:
The Zero Trust framework was deployed gradually, attaching all designated services and applications.
A clear roadmap ensured the future enrollment of 100% of the company’s applications.
Key Achievements:
- Enhanced security posture for Carrefour Belgium’s digital assets.
- Improved efficiency by eliminating traditional VPN infrastructure.
- The future-proofed security model for continued growth with Google technologies.
BeyondCorp’s secure access control and Google Identity’s user-friendly login significantly improved our security posture and user experience, streamlining workflows and reinforcing protection.
