In this interview, Gareth Merriman, Head of Delivery at the ServiceNow practice at Devoteam UK, shares insights into his role, management style, and the company culture. Discover how Devoteam supports its employees and encourages their personal growth, as well as Gareth’s interests outside of work.
Good morning, Gareth. Could you please tell us a bit about yourself?
My name is Gareth Merriman, and I’m the head of delivery at the ServiceNow practice at Devoteam UK. In my role, I’m responsible for all the technical resources within the ServiceNow platform, as well as project delivery of all the ServiceNow products into our customers.
That sounds like a challenging role. How has your experience been so far?
I have to say that I instantly felt comfortable here. It’s my happy place in terms of work, and the first year has been brilliant. I treat everybody with respect, and I hope I get that back. People I’ve worked with over the years hopefully would say that about me. It’s really one of the things I stand by.
Can you tell us a bit about your management style?
I believe in frankness and openness. You should be able to challenge without coming across as aggressive or out of line. I think that openness to listen is also essential. If people don’t agree with something, they should be able to raise and challenge and say why.
How does Devoteam support its employees?
We care deeply about our people. We want to motivate them, be sure that they really enjoy their time with us, and expand their careers. Ultimately, we want to be sure they have that balance of work and life as well, because work is important, but everything they do outside of work is paramount.
Can you tell us about your interests outside of work?
I love music. I’ve always been into alternative music ever since I was probably 15, and I’ve got quite a good record collection at home and a stereo that I’ve built up over the years.
Finally, what would you say is the best thing about working at Devoteam?
There are infinite possibilities to be able to shape your career, but it’s also the ability to make decisions and make your mark. I suppose the world is sort of open here. If you want to do something and you want to achieve something, this is the place to be.
